December 22
I don't usually care for ranch style houses, but this one is really nice. The color is great, the two siding choices are terrific, the new windows go with the style of the house, and the slate on the steps is terrific. Even the house numbers are great. The only quibbles I have are minor:
- The door isn't quite the right style. A simpler one would do better.
- Same thing for the railing. Lose the scrollwork.
- Consider putting slate on the chimney so it matches the stairs.

Five siding styles? Really?
This could be a great house. Right size, good bones, nice location. Even the awnings are cool.
But five different kinds of siding? Come on! Can't find all five? Don't be surprised - the fifth one is hiding behind the bushes out of embarrassment.

Trust me
"Trust me," he said, "this roof color will really make the house stand out." He was right, but not for the right reason.

To begin...
Mrs. E and I travel to West Seattle to babysit our granddaughter two days a week, and on those days, I take baby E for a long walk through her parents' West Seattle neighborhood. Although I'm not an architect, I've always been interested in architecture, and during my walks with baby E I have ample opportunity to look at various housing styles while she naps.
Please join me as I post occasional pictures of some examples of good, bad, and indifferent architecture from the streets of West Seattle.
